My first job in the UK, after I moved here from India, was in an internal communications role—a short term contract. While my extensive experience in the media helped me fulfil my role successfully, I knew I needed to do a course to gain expertise in this new field. As well as that, I wanted to add a UK qualification to my resume (all my degrees are from Delhi University, India) that employers here would recognise. I scouted around for a suitable course. The syllabus for the CIPR internal communication specialist certificate course delivered through PR Academy seemed to offer just what I needed to build a foundation and I enrolled in it.
The webinars were fantastic, the tutors supportive and the online library had a very good collection of books. All of which helped me develop a better understanding of internal communication.
I had applied for several jobs after I had finished my short term contract, but was unsuccessful to even secure an interview. I started applying for jobs again as soon as I submitted my assignment. And surprise surprise, I got an interview.
I walked into the room with confidence, was able to apply knowledge from the course to answer the questions that came my way and got the job! I now look forward to applying what I learnt to my role.
