Organisational Listening for Wellbeing and Performance

Course in Organisational Listening
Online Course

About this course

Equip yourself with the tools and techniques to engage, motivate and inform employees. Enhance productivity in the organisation, support innovation, build resilience, create more healthy cultures and more responsible businesses.

As the world of work changes due to COVID-19, good listening is critical to support employees, some of whom may be working remotely with little or no face to face contact with colleagues.

We’ve got two great course leaders for you. The programme is co-delivered by Dr Kevin Ruck of PR Academy and Mike Pounsford of Couravel an organisation development consultant who specialises in communication and change.  Mike has led listening exercises for many blue-chip clients.

The course will draw on the 2019 Who’s Listening report, co-authored by Mike, Kevin Ruck from PR Academy and Howard Krais from IABC UK&I.

(This course was previously called “Listening for Engagement”.)

It’s fascinating how in just a few weeks of attending the organisational listening course, my thinking about internal communication quickly shifted from a focus on the tactical “sending out stuff” to employees, to thinking about the critical role of listening to employees to improve business performance, and the importance of working with senior leadership to overcome the barriers to effective listening to unlock the real value of effective employee engagement.

Who is this course for?

Communication and HR. This course is designed for experienced communicators, internal communicators and HR practitioners.

Improve performance. Those who want to integrate modern listening practices into the communication mix to support strategy and performance.

Learning outcomes

Know the best tools to use for listening.

Understand different listening approaches and when they might be used.

Discover proven methods for analysing what employees are saying.

Find out how to turn feedback into action.

Gain techniques for getting senior managers on board.

Overcome resistance to listening.

We’ve found not surprisingly, that COVID-19 has sped up the rate at which organisations are adopting new, online ways of listening to employees and believe that listening will continue to grow in importance to connect people to organisations.

It's taught online by Kevin and Mike.  There are online, one-hour workshops, online exercises, guided reading, bite size video and case studies.
The course isn't assessed formally. However, in the final virtual workshop, students will work on an aspect of their business where they think listening could be improved and come away from the course with actions that can be put into place right away.
