News in brief

  • CIPR has awarded an honorary fellowship to Barry Legetter, the outgoing CEO of AMEC; and has named five new fellows: Andrew Smith, Katrine Pearson, Lindsey Collumbell, Adam Tuckwell and Mary Whenman.
  • Barbara Allison, a director of communications within the Scottish Government was awarded a CBE in the Queen’s Birthday honours; Transport for London’s Victoria Harrison-Cook was awarded an MBE for services to diversity in public relations.
  • Research from the Sheila McKecknie Foundation shows that the Lobbying Act is constraining charities’ communications efforts.
  • Reuters Digital News Report 2018 is now available. The use of social media for news has declined in a number of key markets after years of growth.
